Explore Medicare Advantage Plans

During the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period from January 1 to March 31, you can:

• Switch to a different Medicare Advantage plan from your current one

• Disenroll from your current Medicare Advantage plan and return to Original Medicare Parts A&B

There are a few times throughout the year when you may qualify to enroll. First, you can enroll in Medicare three months before your 65th birthday, the month of your birthday, and three months after. If you miss this period, for any reason, you can next enroll during Open Enrollment, October 15 to December 7, 2025. There are also other times of year you can enroll, depending on what’s happening in your life. There are four parts to Medicare. These are Parts A & B, known as Original Medicare, Part C, and Part D. Parts C and D are sometimes combined in a Medicare Advantage plan, but can be bought separately. 

Medicare Part A helps cover inpatient hospital costs like room and board, and a limited stay in a skilled nursing facility. It also helps cover hospice care and home-health care. Part B helps cover medical expenses like doctor visits, outpatient care, and some medical supplies. It also helps cover some occupational and physical therapy, and some home-health care. Part B can also help with preventive care like exams, lab work, shots, tests, and screenings.

Part C plans, known as Medicare Advantage, can include all the coverage and benefits of Parts A & B, with extra services such as dental, hearing, vision, and prescription drug coverage. Note that some Medicare Advantage plans will not include the same hospice care benefits as Parts A & B. Part D is solely for prescription drug coverage.

Medicare Advantage plans combine all the benefits of Original Medicare (Parts A & B), and may have your Part D Prescription Drug plan built right in. Plus, some plans will have routine dental and vision coverage, and other extra benefits, all for a monthly plan premium.

The cost of Original Medicare (Parts A and B) will depend on what you paid into Medicare taxes while working. Most people with Part A coverage don’t have a premium, while Part B’s expected standard cost is $185 per month for 2025. Social Security can help you understand your Part B premium. 

Part C, or Medicare Advantage plans, have different monthly costs depending on the company and plan you choose. Prescription Drug plans in Part D will also have different costs based on plan choice.
